1. I’m not going to lie. Last weekend, I spent the vast majority of the time in my pajamas, curled up on the couch, savoring each and every minute of “House of Cards” season three. And, amazingly, I didn’t finish it, and still have three episodes left to watch. Nevertheless, I suppose that makes me a bad entertainment and nightlife reporter. I promise to do better this weekend. It’s also the ending of Daylight Savings Time! In Bangor on Friday night, the Bill Barnes Jazz Trio plays at Nocturnem Drafthaus, North of Nashville takes the stage at Paddy Murphy’s, and out in Winterport, rockers Between Dead Stations are at 4Points BBQ & Blues in Winterport. On Saturday, photographer Caleb Charland (a photo from whom is at left) has an art opening at Central Gallery, the Habeneros del Norte Latin swing band is at Nocturnem, the Trisha Mason Band is at Paddy’s, rockers Tomorrow Morning are at Ipanema, country rockers Right Amount of Wrong are at the Downunder Lounge at Seasons, and out in Winterport, Chris Ross is at 4Points. On Sunday, the Bangor Symphony Orchestra has its March concert at 3 p.m. at the Collins Center in Orono, and songwriter Shaefer James plays at 7 p.m. at the Central Gallery.

2. It’s First Friday Art Walk night in Portland, and lordy lordy, it’s not going to be freezing out! Hooray! Later that night, at Empire Irish rockers Pugwash return to Portland, with guests An Overnight Low and Rick Murnane. Over at Port City Music Hall, the Maine Academy of Modern Music shines the spotlight on lady musicians, with the bands the Box Tiger and Yard Sail backed by the Maine Youth Rock Orchestra, while at One Longfellow Square there’s Soule Monde, Ghost of Jupiter and Cold Engines, and at Mayo Street Arts the “salsacore” band El Malo will get you up off your feet. On Saturday, the exceptionally talented songwriter Justin Townes Earle plays two concerts at One Longfellow Square (the second is sold out), the State Theatre hosts the virtuoso bluegrass band the Punch Brothers, Port City has got Odesza, Little People and Big Wild, Mayo Street hosts Carl Dimow and the Jim Lyden Trio, and at Bayside Bowl there’s Nuclear Bootz and Mome. And don’t forget a great lineup of local bands at Empire, with Foam Castles (pictured above), Leveret and Soft Pyramids. On Sunday, the Under Pressure Tour hits the Asylum, featuring rapper Logic and DJs Rhetorik and Michael Christmas, and at Empire, the band Happiness takes the stage.

3. Friday night in Rockland your options include rockabilly band Three Button Deluxe at the Speakeasy or roots band the Rusty Hinges at Rock City Coffee, while up the coast in Belfast there’s the wild n’ crazy monthly Flying Shoes Contradance at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. On Saturday the Aurora Jazz Project plays at Rock City, while the Eric Green Party rocks the Myrtle Street Tavern. Across the bay, on Friday the Dockside Inn in Southwest Harbor on MDI welcomes PEI Celtic fiddlers Richard Wood and Gordon Belcher (pictured), while the Thirsty Whale in Bar Harbor opens for the season with a part featuring Tomorrow Morning, and in Ellsworth Chummies hosts rockers Fools Rule; on Saturday, GoldenOak takes the stage at the Lompoc Cafe in Bar Harbor. On Sunday, the Grand Theatre in Ellsworth continues it’s monthly Hollywood Classics movies series, screening “The Searchers” at 2 p.m.

4. What an incredible ski season it’s been, has it not? And of course, it’s not over yet — though some balmier weather this weekend will surely make for great times on the slopes. At Sugarloaf, your apres ski entertainment options includes three nights of Rolling Stones cover band the Stone Doctors at the Widowmaker, while Friday night, the Maine Outdoor Film Festival screens in the Maple Room at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Gepetto’s hosts songwriter Tim Sullivan and 45 North hosts jazz duo Chris Poulin and Juliane Gardner; there’s also Maine Adaptive Sports’ annual Sugarloaf Social, set for 5 to 9 p.m. at the Outdoor Center and benefiting all the great things MAS does for differently abled skiers and boarders. Off site, the Rack in Bethel hosts the Grumps on Friday along with a Banded Horn Brewing tap takeover, on Saturday the JT Lockwood Band plays, and on Sunday, there’s the band Bishop Avenue.

5. This weekend is the 77th annual Eastern Maine Sportsmen’s Show, set for Friday through Sunday at the New Balance Field House on the University of Maine Field House. Amid the anglers, hunters, hikers, paddlers and other outdoors enthusiasts, you can learn a lot, buy some stuff and see my BDN buddy Aislinn Sarnacki speak at 5 p.m. Saturday and noon on Sunday. You can also see John Holyoke being Holyoke. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
