Good Morning America’s Ginger Zee was part of an ABC TV crew broadcasting from the Jordan Pond House Thursday morning, when the morning show revealed Acadia National Park as the winner of a reader vote for America’s Favorite Place.
A large crowd of locals arrived at the Jordan Pond House that morning to cheer on Acadia, which was one of five contenders for America’s Favorite Place, which viewers could vote on via Facebook or Twitter. Zee, a meteorologist for GMA, mentioned on social media on Wednesday that she’d be heading to the favorite place — but she didn’t say where. It was revealed Thursday morning that Acadia — which attracts more than 2 million visitors per year — was the winner.
“Acadia is a national treasure and a Maine icon, and it is wonderful to see the park’s stunning beauty recognized by Americans across the country,” said U.S. Rep. and current gubernatorial candidate Mike Michaud. “Acadia offers Maine residents and visitors from around the world thousands of acres of beautiful scenery to enjoy. From the historic Bass Harbor Head Light to the summit of Cadillac Mountain, Acadia provides visitors with breathtaking views of both beautiful forest and the Maine coast. Congratulations to all of those who work so hard to keep Acadia a beautiful place for Mainers and Americans to enjoy – this is a well-deserved honor that will elevate Acadia’s national profile.”
The “America’s Favorite Place” vote has been going on this summer, and was down to five finalists for the place that GMA viewers believe is the most beautiful, fun or otherwise best place in America. In addition to Acadia National Park, the contenders were the Gulf Shore of Alabama, Chicago’s Lakefront, Glacier National Park in Montana and Lake Tahoe in Nevada and California.
