Dave Matthews Band set for Bangor Waterfront June 6; Jason Aldean concert date still TBA

dave_matthews_band_bw_2012_photo_Danny_Clinch-thumb-525x350-13091After more than two decades as one of the biggest touring acts in the world, the Dave Matthews Band will finally return to Maine on Friday, June 6, at Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor, as part of the Machias Savings Bank Concert Series. Tickets go on sale to Dave Matthews Band Warehouse Fan Association members on Thursday, Jan, 16, and to the general public on Friday, Feb. 7. The Bangor date is one of more than 40 dates on the band’s highly anticipated 2014 North American tour.

Waterfront Concerts is also listing a summertime performance from country superstar Jason Aldean for the venue, though a specific date has not yet been listed. Aldean himself announced a 50-date U.S. tour with Florida Georgia Line and Tyler Farr that will kick off on May 1. Aldean last performed in Bangor in September 2012.

Dave Matthews’ last performance in Maine was a solo show with guitarist Tim Reynolds at the then-Maine Center for the Arts (now the Collins Center for the Arts) in Orono in January 1997.

“A Very Special Evening with Dave Matthews Band,” as the tour is being billed, will feature the group delivering two sets per evening, performing songs from throughout its career. The band will wind through numerous configurations – from electric to acoustic, from numbers featuring the entire band to more intimate moments featuring small groups of band members – including a stripped-down pairing of Matthews with guitarist Tim Reynolds, performing as an acoustic duo, as they occasionally do when the band is off the road. A variety of guests will join the band throughout the summer.

Dave Matthews Band plans to release a new album later this year, date and title TBA, that will be produced by “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King” producer Rob Cavallo. DMB has sold a combined 37 million CDs and DVDs throughout it’s more than 20-year career, which began in Charlottesville, VA in the early 1990s, and exploded onto the national scene with “Under the Table and Dreaming,” which has been certified six times platinum. The band has released eight albums in total, including 2012’s “Away From the World,” which was certified gold, and DMB ties the Eagles with having the most number one Billboard chart albums of all time. They have also released more than 35 live albums, seven of which have gone gold or platinum.

Dave Matthews Band joins The Band Perry at the Cross Insurance Center on Friday, Jan 31, and Celtic Woman on May 30 and the Arcade Fire on Aug. 20, both at the Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion. More concert announcements should be expected soon.

Tickets will be available through waterfrontconcerts.com, through Ticketmaster, and in person at Mark’s Music in Brewer or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Ticket price information is not available at this time; check bangordailynews.com later for pricing information, as well as a confirmed date for the Jason Aldean concert this summer on the Bangor Waterfront.
