Michael J. Fox visits Tony’s Donuts in Portland

Tony’s Donuts, the iconic Portland bakery located on 9 Bolton St., just off Congress Street near the Amtrak station, got a very special visitor on Wednesday morning – actor and activist Michael J. Fox, who was in town to attend and speak at the funeral of philanthropist Albert Glickman.

Fox, beloved for roles including Marty McFly in the “Back to the Future” movies, Alex P. Keaton on “Family Ties” and later roles on shows including “Spin City” and “The Good Wife,” took a detour to try one of Tony’s famous donuts, a Portland institution for several decades. Fox’s Parkinson’s disease research organization, the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research, had Glickman as a board member, and the two worked together to held fund research into fighting the disease, which Fox was diagnosed with in the mid-1990s.
