Pirate fests and lumberjacks on Maine episode of new Travel Channel show

The Travel Channel’s new show “Edge of America,” hosted by Boston Globe writer Geoff Edgers, premiered two weeks ago on the channel. For its third episode, it traveled to Maine to stop at a few “offbeat” events and locations, in keeping with the show’s theme of off the beaten path festivals and places that showcase the lesser-known side of America. In addition to Maine, the show has visited Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Oregon, with more episodes to come.

Edgers and a film crew visited the Eastport Pirate Festival, the Great Maine Lumberjack Show in Trenton, and the Seaplane Fly-In on Moosehead Lake in Greenville, which all happen to occur within a few days of each other in September. While in Maine, Edgers took part in a lobster boat race and a bed race at the Eastport pirate fest, tried his hand at log rolling and ax throwing with owner “Timber” Tina Scheer at the Lumberjack Show, and rode a seaplane over Moosehead Lake.

Though the show aired once already late Tuesday night, the Maine episode will air again at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 on the Travel Channel. You can see pictures and clips from the episode online at the Edge of America website.
