Senator Olympia Snowe – along with several of her senate and house colleagues – will appear on the season premiere of the NBC comedy “Parks and Recreation,” set for 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20. Senator Snowe filmed her scene in Washington, D.C. on July 19 with Senator Barbara Boxer (D-California) and series stars Amy Poehler and Adam Scott.
In the episode, Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) travels to D.C. from Pawnee, Indiana, where she had recently been elected as a councilwoman, to visit Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott). Wyatt invites Knope to a cocktail party attended by high profile politicians, including Snowe and Boxer who portray themselves. Senator Snowe delivered two lines for the episode.
“I thoroughly enjoyed filming the scene. It was truly a pleasure to meet Amy and Adam, who are both incredibly talented and humorous,” said Snowe. “Although the show is fictional, Amy’s character, Leslie, demonstrates an admirable passion for public service, echoing the belief I have long held that public service is a most noble pursuit.”
